This plant originated as a start from a now-deceased family friend 40-some years ago. In spite of my less-than-stellar care, it's morphed into this huge plant that blooms fairly reliably.
It is so huge, however, that bringing it in for the winter is problematic. It won't fit through the door. I end up cutting off a lot of viable pieces and discarding them. If I don't get rid of them, I will end up like my mom; who had to build a room onto her house to keep her enormous collection of beautiful plants - all started in a jar of water sitting on the kitchen sink.
Anyway, after posting pictures of my plant's lovely blooms this summer on Facebook, which ultimately resulted in me gifting a box of starts to a friend who'd lost her plant in a hail storm, I hatched the idea that I could share these with other HoofPrints customers, too. All you have to do is pay 1 cent and $7.95 shipping and I will send you some starts so you can grow your own Night Blooming Cereus. Offer good while supplies last.
They root readily in a jar of water. Or poke the cut end into damp soil and those will grow also. They are not hardy so must be brought inside when temperatures get below freezing, but mine lives happily outside from spring to fall.
