INSTRUCTIONS: Place dry balls into dryer with wet laundry (4 balls for medium load, 6 balls for large load). When not in use store dryer balls in a dry place, use cotton bag (do not use plastic bag).

From HoofPrints owner Gina Keesling - A convoluted backstory about the balls: Without getting into health specifics <cough: menopause> my doctor prescribed transdermal creams to help mitigate some issues I've been suffering with. She says transdermal (absorbed into the skin, and thus then directly into the bloodstream) is far safer than taking the same medication in pill form, as it bypasses the liver.

What I have learned from this has caused me to freak out concerning what I now allow to get on my skin. If a tiny blob of innocuous looking, odorless cream can make the difference between me being wretchedly overheated vs having a relatively normal day, what is all the other stuff that's getting on my skin doing to my body? I'm lookin' at you: Fabric Softener.

Now, I love it when my laundry comes out of the dryer feeling soft and smelling good, but my paranoia about how chemical softening agents and perfumes might be affecting my health keeps me from using fabric softener or dryer sheets. Now, I have the PERFECT SOLUTION. All it took was some balls! And essential oil(s).

Here's the deal - you apply a few drops of pure essential oil, like Annie Oakley's Journeys™ Calming Lavender and allow it to permeate the densely felted balls for a bit. Then you toss them in the dryer with your wet clothes. They gently thump around; separating, scenting, and softening as the dryer does its job.
Google's full of blogger/home-maker folks who've tested these and done the math as far as how much faster clothes get dry, anywhere from a few minutes to an impressive 25% faster. For me, the big selling point was that my clothes and towels are soft and lightly scented, and NOT with some chemical concoction that may be detrimental to my health.
These can be reused until they fall apart; the manufacturer is saying 1,000 loads! Scent needs re-applied every few loads - the Annie Oakley Journeys™ Calming Lavender Essential Oil bottle contains 500 drops so that's economical also.
