Charlie's Soap was originally formulated in the 1970s, to clean lubricant (and the dirt stuck to it) from machines in textile mills. Back then, nitrile gloves weren't a thing; the workers doing the cleaning were using bare hands. The factory setting put the product to the test: it had to clean grease and accumulated crud, not harm the skin of the workers, and not be a problem with the wastewater treatment plant.

Charlie's father (also Charlie) made his living supplying the oils that lubed the machines. Charlie Jr has a background in engineering and chemistry, so he was able to reverse engineer a formula to break down the oils in water. Just like what we need to happen when we wash filthy clothes.

Charlie's is a complete detergent, you don't need anything else to clean your clothes.

I am always on the lookout for new products that my farrier and horsey customers might find useful, so when I saw a pitch for natural laundry detergent - saying it would remove residual stink from clothes that had been sweated in repeatedly, I immediately thought of hard working farriers, hay balers, horsewomen, stall cleaners, etc.

As a farrier's wife with a sensitive nose, I know all too well the phenomenon where freshly washed clothes still have a hint of funky odor wafting up as they're being transferred from the washer to the dryer. A selling point for Charlie's Soap is that it gets rid of that, leaving only CLEAN smell (NOT FLOWERS). I ordered a sample and set about testing it for myself. Let the record state that at 60 years old, my laundry skills are somewhere around "expert"

To test it, I grabbed up an armload of my previously "expertly" laundered sports bras and tank tops, tossed them in the bathroom sink, added a tablespoon of Charlie's Soap and filled with warm water. An hour later I didn't know whether to be astonished or grossed out. It really does do what they say. "Breaking down biological residues" sounds like fluffy marketing-speak... but that's exactly what happened.

If this detergent can extract that much residual dirt from this not-that-active middle aged woman's already-washed clothes, imagine what it can do for folks who really DO get sweaty and dirty! It comes in 3 sizes: 2.64 lbs does up to 100 loads, 1.1 lb / 30 load packets, and Trial or Travel size - 4 load packets. It's a complete detergent, you don't need anything else to clean your clothes.

*Disclaimer - you may recognize some of the (gross) pictures from our previous Rockin' Green Detergent promotions. I'd intended to use a new photo of the results of my new test with Charlie's Soap. The only clothes I had on hand that were previously laundered in regular detergent were some vintage socks belonging to my husband. The resulting water was just as dirty, but the white socks in the white sink just didn't make as good a presentation as the one shown with the coordinating teal sports bras. 	Household laundry too!	7/10/2023
I got this to use on my smelly barn clothes and saddle pads but decided to try it as my regular laundry detergent for a few weeks. Let me tell you that no other product has ever kept my clothes, sheets and towels so soft in my hard water! I don’t need to use fabric softener and dryer sheets anymore!!

	Got rid of skunk smell!	6/15/2023
I bought this detergent to wash my horsey clothes after riding or mucking. It has worked great for that. A few nights ago I used it for an emergency laundry wash after my dog was sprayed by a skunk. After we washed him I threw the towels we dried him with and everything I was wearing in the wash. I neednt have worried. There is no trace of skunkiness in the clothes now.

I dont do the laundry, Hubby does, but he swears by the performance and results of this detergent! Hubby is NOT a horse person but does have lots of athletic wear that gets funky. I have tons of horse stuff, riding and otherwise, that he launders for me and everything comes out fresh & clean!

	No More Stinky Tail Bags!	6/15/2023
My horses have beautiful tails, but have to be in tail bags in the winter to keep the tree needles out. But my mare pees on hers! This stuff takes that smell out like nothing else I have tried. Really works! Also great for wet dog blankets and bedding. I use it on everything now!

	Works Great on Hubbys Fishing Sunshirts as Well!	6/15/2023
After my husband returned from the 2020 Musky Tour of Pain -- 22 lakes in 10 days in northern Wisconsin -- his favorite HUK sunshirt was looking a little grimy around the cuffs. I soaked it with a scoop of Charlies and OH MY STARS! He could not believe how dark and dingy the water was after just a few hours. It is now on its THIRD round of soaking, and the water is looking much better. I also use it on his work polos - as an executive chef/foodservice manager, the cooler tech fabric is more comfortable in the kitchen, but tends to collect scents and never really smell clean. Each one will get at least one round of soaking. Thank you for offering this amazing product, Gina! Also great on car seat covers too!

	Everything came out smelling clean and fresh!	6/15/2023
I finally used that no-stink laundry detergent on some disgustingly smelly stuff — even a pair of gloves that had been sprayed by a feral cat while transferring him to take to the vet for neutering. EVERYTHING CAME OUT SMELLING CLEAN AND FRESH! I’m going to be ordering the big size soon.

I thought the price seemed a little steep for such a small bag, but this is the first detergent that has gotten all of the desert dust out of my fuzzy thermal cuffs on my shirt sleeves. It is very effective at getting rid of stains and smells. Afterbirth? Gone. Foal poop? Like it was never there. Crusty socks and dust baked jeans from a long day of yard work? Gone and forgotten. Carrot slobber down the front of your friend who thought a white shirt was totally appropriate to wear to the barn? Dealt with. Weird marks from bute or SMZs? Wave the magic wand. This gets out all the odd and troublesome insults that the barn can throw at your clothes and make them smell clean but not scented. It works great on my tuff chix gloves and my sun protection hats in the sink. Almost through with my first bag and already have a second in my cart waiting to buy on my next order.

I normally don’t take the time to write reviews but had to share how great this product really is. I live on a farm, spend a lot of time outside and in the barn- needless to say but clothes really get dirty around our place! I was skeptical at first but after washing the first load I was shocked at how CLEAN my clothes were. And- not only did they look and feel clean, they SMELLED clean. I love this product and urge everyone to try it- you will not be disappointed.

You only use the tiniest bit and the stink is gone! I have a lot of running and riding clothes that never completely would get non-stinky...until this stuff! I first thought it was expensive. But you use so little that it’s a really good deal. I even use it on running bras with cold water, and IT WORKS.

I have tried everything to get my t-shirts white. Durning a visit to Mary’s house she showed me her dirty grease white shirt then How she come to buying. Charlie’s natural Natural laundry soap,not only did it get it white but looked Brand new again. I couldn’t believe how white it came out, Don’t pass this buy ,It’s unbelievable how clean her clothes Looked! Take it from Jackie. Buy Charlie’s Soap Natural Laundry Detergent. It’s Amazing
